Seems to do it’s job, April 21, 2014

I get few pimples but when I do it’s the ugly cyst blemishes that like to hang out for months on end (apparently they reabsorb but I’ve never experienced mine to) until I finally get sick of the bump and pop them – generally making it worse. Been using the Sirius on my pimples in the morning after I get out of my shower and after I wash my face before bed. Honestly, when you use it the first couple of days it seems to only make them worse and I quit using it by day three because by then they are pretty tender from the heat. However, by the time I wake up on the fourth day the blemish is completely gone! I’ve even used it on a stye I got on my lower lid and it was gone by day three!

Of course it’s not powerful like the pimple zappers you get at the spa but it’s ah-mazing being only $30!

Also, I wanted to add that I’ve probably used mine about…. 20ish? times and I’m still using the original AA battery I put into it. Considering how hot it gets for how long, I was expecting to have to change the battery after every couple of uses. My electric toothbrush requires a change more often!

Only used this a few times. I will probably give it 5 stars after I’ve used it more. So far, it has done a great job clearing the few acne I’ve gotten (only had the device for a month or so), but I did burn my face during one usage (ouch! – but I also have super-sensitive skin so not abnormal in my case). This is not hard to prevent burns – remove the device from your skin for just a second if it feels too hot. Then, put it back to work. I’d definitely recommend!

How it works, January 26, 2017

This device is useful for resolving blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, and “chalazia” which is a bump on your eyelid. All of these things are blockages of pores in your skin.

Here is how the Pulsar works: The pores secrete “sebum”, an oil (liquid fat) which keeps your skin pliable and waterproof. The sebum mixes with debris of dead skin cells (mostly keratin) and this sometimes solidifies and blocks the pore. If you heat the blemish with the Pulsar, the sebum will soften or melt. Thus, the blockage will be cleared and your body will take care of the rest.

You could also do this with a hot compress. But the Pulsar is more convenient, and easier to focus on one spot.

The Pulsar heats your skin right to the edge of pain, and keeps it there for a minute. It does this with a tip that doesn’t require replacement and a cheap AA battery (you can even use a rechargeable one). It’s cheap enough that when it breaks, you can buy another one.

The Pulsar also has a blue light which it shines on your blemish. It’s a pretty color, and it helps you to position the device, but I’m not convinced that it’s ultraviolet or has any therapeutic effect.

Because it’s cheap and the manufacturer has to manage their liability, the device comes with a disclaimer which advises that you do not apply the Pulsar to any form of acne, or to your eyelid, which are the things you bought it to do. Also, I am not any sort of medical professional, so my advice is not to be applied to your medical situation either. Manage your own situation and take your own risks.

There is a much more expensive device called the “Zeno” whose manufacturer is not satisfied with their revenue from selling the device, they want an additional $1 every time you use it! So, they have programmed their “tip” to stop working after 60 uses, and it will cost about $60 to replace. This seems like a scam to me! After all, it’s just a heater. For people who do not see any point in paying $1 for the simple act of heating their skin, the Pulsar never requires replacement of the tip. So, it’s better for your self respect, as well as your acne.
