Not for Dry Skin, February 19, 2014

I bought this a while back before my new revelation of skin type and product usage (crazy, i know). Anyway, I kept using it because I was desperate for anything to get rid of my acne. I would wash my face, apply this, and then apply my moisturizer. It felt tough on my skin and no matter how much I moisturized it always dried out my face. Would not recommend to anyone with dry skin.

Skip the dermatologist scam and buy these instead, February 22, 2016

I’ve had good results using a combination of this product, Topix Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash 8 oz bottle, and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, For all skin types, 16-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2).

The first two products have the exact same active ingredients as what a dermatologist had prescribed me (INOVA 8%/4% pads). I found out his prescription drug costs over $300 at retail for a supply that lasts a much shorter time than this product, doesn’t work any better, and smells terrible. Previously I had paid $50 copays for it but after my company began to offer an HSA/HDHP plan I needed to do some serious research on INOVA pads as now they were starting to cost me a lot of money beyond the copays. I asked my dermatologist and my pharmacist if there was a generic available for INOVA. They both told me no. I can’t be certain that they were lying to my face but it’s hard to believe they wouldn’t know these active ingredients were both available over the counter.

Everyone is different, but this regimen works for me:
    Day 1)
    Morning:
-Wash face with gentle Cetaphil cleanser. Keep a bottle in the shower so you can just wash your face off under the shower head.

    Night:
-Wash face with gentle Cetaphil cleanser. Wipe it off with your hands, never a rough towel to avoid redness/irritation.
-Put a little bit of Benzoyl Peroxide cream on your fingers (even pea-sized works), rub it all around your face and leave it on for about a minute. Again, wash off with water using your hands and not a towel.
-Dry your face off gently with a white towel or one you do not care if the color bleaches out. Pat your face with the towel, don’t scrub your face.

WARNING: DO NOT LET ANY BENZOYL PEROXIDE GET ON YOUR CLOTHES OR SHEETS/PILLOWCASES. IT WILL BLEACH THE COLORS OUT.

    Day 2)

    -Dry off face.
-Gently apply a Neutrogena Acne Stress Control Night Cleansing Pad. You don’t need to scrub or push hard.

Just repeat these alternating every other day.

If you run into redness/irritation use less Benzoyl Peroxide, use the other product sold on amazon that has a smaller % of the active ingredient, or make sure you aren’t scrubbing your face with a towel.

I purchased this product because I needed something with salicylic acid in it. As it is the only thing that combats my acne. Nothing else really works. I have very dry skin and this product is semi drying. However, I use a really good moisturizer in conjunction with this product. So the drying of this product is counteracted by a good moisturizer. Not sure why some of the other reviewers gave such a bad rep. It smells great. It has a very light, soothing and refreshing fragrance. The salicylic acid works good for me, as usual. I have hormonal/inflammatory acne and salicylic does its job. I’ve been using it for about 4 days and can already see a difference in the texture of my skin. I didn’t expect it to really change the appearance of my blemishes I just bought it to stop breakouts but it has actually made some of my hyper-pigmentation and dark spots lighten and it looks like they are fading! This is a great product, it will do your skin great, just use a really good moisturizer and you should be fine.
